Seattle’s 2026 Holiday Season Brings Citywide Lineup of Iconic Traditions and Festive Experiences, From Twinkling Ships to Cozy Cultural Marketplaces

SEATTLE – From the Sound to the downtown core and beyond, Seattle transforms into a vibrant holiday destination, with traditions such as the 77th annual Argosy Cruises Christmas Ship™ Festival, Pike Place Market’s Magic in the Market, and the National Nordic Museum’s Julefest. Music and performances like the Seattle Symphony’s holiday lineup and “The Nutcracker” at Pacific Northwest Ballet add to the cheer, and the year concludes with exciting displays, including the iconic New Year’s Eve fireworks and drone show at the Space Needle. Uniquely Seattle Holiday Traditions Return

Seattle’s position between lakes and the Puget Sound means it has a long history of boating culture beginning with Indigenous maritime traditions. The Argosy Cruises Christmas Ship™ Festival, running Nov. 27-Dec. 23, celebrates its 77th year lighting up the city’s waterways. Don’t miss the Parade of Boats night, where the Christmas Ship is joined by other vessels.

“The Argosy Cruises Christmas Ship™ Festival is a beloved Northwest tradition that we’re incredibly proud to share with the region,” said Jordan Clark, director of marketing at Argosy Cruises. “Since 1949, Argosy has brought people together on the water to celebrate the season. With departures across Seattle, Kirkland, Edmonds, Everett, and Des Moines, the festival brings music and magic to more than 40 waterfront communities across Puget Sound, creating lasting memories that become part of families’ holiday traditions.”

Beyond spreading the holiday cheer across the Sound, the festival also gives back to the community by raising funds for The Seattle Times’ Fund for Those in Need.

Just steps from the waterfront, Pike Place Market offers another iconic Seattle holiday experience, transforming its historic corridors into a festive destination for shopping, dining, and seasonal celebrations. The market’s calendar features the 31st Annual Magic in the Market on Nov. 28 – complete with Santa photos, cookie decorating, artisan shopping, and the famous lighting ceremony – followed by a dedicated Holiday Night Market with Santa on Dec. 10 offering seasonal treats and local shopping.

“Pike Place Market takes on a special energy during the holiday season, offering countless ways to experience the magic of the Market,” said Rachel Ligtenberg, president & CEO of Pike Place Market Preservation & Development Authority. “Pick up fresh flowers and ingredients for a holiday feast, discover handmade and one-of-a-kind gifts, meet the producers behind the goods you’re buying, enjoy a festive meal or drink with friends and family, and take in the sights, sounds, and traditions that make a visit to the Market special. Every trip supports the local farmers, makers, musicians, and small businesses who bring the Market to life year-round.”
