Sounds By The Sound

Sounds by the Sound is a weekly half-hour show exploring Seattle’s legendary music scene filmed in some of the city’s most unique and scenic locations. With live music performances, exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes looks at noteworthy destinations and attractions – Sounds by the Sound is a travel guide to the sights and sounds of Seattle.
Episode one looks at the intersection of music and sports in Seattle, featuring an interview and live performances by The Flavr Blue at Lumen Field, a tour of the stadium, an interview with the Seahawks official DJ and a performance by Porter Ray.
Episode Two looks at how art and music influence each other in Seattle, featuring live performances by Hey Marseilles at Chihuly Garden and Glass, an interview and performance by THEESatisfaction at Kubota Garden, and a look at the FLATSTOCK poster show.

Music Beyond Rock

Sounds By The Sound

Episode three focuses on musical styles outside of Seattle’s rock reputation, featuring live performances by Naomi Wachira at Seattle Center, an interview and performances by Fly Moon Royalty at Union Stables, and a tour of “Musician: A Portrait Project.”
Episode four features Bumbershoot, the long running Seattle music festival, an interview and live performances by The Grizzled Mighty at Pier 62/63 on Seattle’s waterfront, and an interview with Kate Becker, Director of the Office of Film and Music.
Episode five shows off Seattle’s music landmarks, features an interview and live performances by Brothers From Another at the Space Needle, and includes a tour of EMP Museum and the exhibit, “Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses.”
Andy goes underground – literally – in Episode Six, as he takes the Underground Tour in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood. The episode also features a live performance by Black Whales at Gas Works Park and an interview and performance by Deep Sea Diver at the I-5 Colonnade.

Sounds By The Sound

Episode seven features live performances by Sisters at the Hotel Max Artist Loft, an interview with rock photographer Charles Peterson, and an interview and performances by Bread & Butter at Frolik Kitchen + Cocktails. Andy also heads to Sea-Tac to visit the Sub Pop Airport Store.
Episode eight shows off one of the iconic views of Seattle, as Andy heads to Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill. The episode also features an interview with Mike Hadreas, A.K.A. Perfume Genius at Kubota Garden, and performances by Rocky Votolato at the UW Waterfront Activities Center.

Seattle’s historic music venues are showcased in Episode Three, featuring The Young Evils at West Seattle’s Easy Street Records and Clemm Rishad at The Crocodile. Plus, former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan talks with Andy at the Moore Theatre about growing up in the Seattle music scene.

Sounds By The Sound

Seattle loves music, food, and drink, and this episode showcases all three with live performances and interviews with Ever So Android in Caffé Vita’s bean room, plus Maiah Manser at The Carlile Room. Andy also catches up with restaurateur Andrew Friedman at Liberty Bar on Capitol Hill.

Women have always been a huge part of Seattle’s music scene. Check out Shaprece performing live from inside the Seattle Great Wheel, and Katie Kate performing at the Seattle Art Museum. Andy also talks with Kristin Ebeling at All Together Skatepark about the Skate Like A Girl program.
This episode focuses on Seattle’s blend of music and tech, with performances by Will Jordan at the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) and Spekulation at the Living Computer Museum. Andy also chats with sound engineer Andy Rohrman about creating music for video games, ads and movies.

This episode celebrates film and music. We head to SIFF Cinema Egyptian for a performance by Ravenna Woods.Then we head to Twede’s Café, from the TV show “Twin Peaks” for a set from Iska Dhaaf. And we’ll get scary at MoPOP‘s horror exhibit, “Can’t Look Away: the Lure of Horror Film.”
Seattle has long been influenced by Pacific Rim culture. In this episode, we head to the Wing Luke Museum for a tour of their Bruce Lee exhibit, as well as a performance by Khingz and Massiah. Then it’s Tangerine playing live at Seattle Center’s International Fountain.

In this episode, we’ll see a performance from Manatee Commune amidst the iconic cherry blossoms on the University of Washington campus. We’ll also experience some of Seattle’s more unique school culture with a visit to Emerald City Trapeze Arts and a performance by the band Crater.

If there’s one thing that defines Seattle as much as its music, it’s the water. In this episode, the water is our backdrop, starting with a trip across Elliott Bay to West Seattle for an energetic, waterfront performance from Fauna Shade on the patio of Marination Ma Kai. Then we take a ride on a Washington State Ferry under dramatic storm clouds for a performance from “Seattle’s smoothest rapper,” Dave B.

Offbeat Seattle

Seattle isn’t Seattle without its quirkiness. It’s the little offbeat things that make this city a truly unique place. In this episode, we’ll take a closer look at the unorthodox. We’ll catch up with the band Pillar Point at Oxbow Park, home of the famed Hat ‘n’ Boot. From there, we’ll investigate the wonders of the Mystery Soda Machine in Capitol Hill. Then we’ll head to the Pinball Museum in the Chinatown-International District to meet up with The Fame Riot, a group that embodies Seattle’s unconventional style and spirit.
