Alt Brewing

Although Seattle enjoys a well-deserved reputation for producing outstanding beer, wine, spirits, and coffee, the city excels in many other kinds of craft beverages.

Ciders

There are several terrific cideries in the city that take advantage of Washington’s status as one of the nation’s top growers of apples, pears, and other juicy fruit. In a festive high-ceilinged taproom in Fremont, Schilling Cider House (708 N 34th St) serves its crisp drinks, including the seasonal spiced chai Chaider, plus refreshing hard lemonade. With four locations around the city, Locust Cider (2003 Western Ave) stands out for its inventive use of ingredients—consider the semi-sweet honey-pear or off-dry chai ciders.

Tea and Kombucha

A lovely spot for a cuppa on a cool day, Pioneer Square’s aptly named Foggy Tea (602 Second Ave) offers an array of fine loose-leaf tea drinks, including the London fog latte with black tea, bergamot oil, vanilla syrup, and steamed milk. At inviting Seattle Best Tea (506 S King St), a traditional Taiwanese teahouse, you’ll find a tremendous selection of aromatic oolong, green, and herbal teas. Fans of kombucha can find delicious options at Seeking Kombucha and CommuniTea Kombucha (1409 21st Ave).

Unique Sips

Head to Pike Place Market and the flagship location of Rachel’s Ginger Beer (1530 Post Alley), with its all-natural drinks crafted with fresh ginger root—novel flavors include pink guava and cucumber-tarragon. Amid the muraled walls of Mr. B’s Meadery (475 N 36th St) in Fremont, try a glass of small-batch mead—an alcoholic drink made with fermented honey and yeast. San Juan Seltzery (3901 First Ave S), set amid acclaimed winery tasting rooms at SODO Urbanworks, makes a variety of refreshing hard seltzers and lemonades.
