Refract: The Seattle Glass Experience

Artist Open Studio Application

Thank you to all artists who are interested in participating in “Refract: The Seattle Glass Experience” held October 15-18, 2020. All fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required, including the AGREEMENT TO TERMS at the bottom of this form.

Overview

The Pacific Northwest is the leading regional hub for glass art in the United States with more than 100 studios calling the area home. To celebrate our rich community, Visit Seattle, Chihuly Garden and Glass, and many other organizations came together in 2019 to create and host “Refract: The Seattle Glass Experience”.

It was a success! The second annual Refract will be October 15-18, 2020. This city-wide and regional event will once again include a mix of exhibitions, parties, tours, demonstrations and more – providing visitors an opportunity to learn about what makes our glass art community so special.

Opportunity

We invite all Seattle-area glass artists to apply to participate in Refract’s series of community-wide Open Studios.

This year we will organize Open Studios by area. North End Open Studios will be held Saturday, October 17 from 11am-3pm, and South End Open Studios will be held Sunday, October 18 from 11am-3pm.

Artists hosting Open Studios can anticipate visitors with varying knowledge of glass – many Refract attendees may be new to the medium and curious about the process. Studios can have pieces available for sale if desired, however the goal of Open Studios is to provide visitors with insight into the process of working with glass.

All submissions will be reviewed by the Refract Planning Committee and priority will be given to artists who meet the following criteria:

  • Artist working in the medium of glass
  • A completed body of work on display
  • Studio can accommodate at least 10 people at a time
  • Artist will be in attendance during Open Studio

Approved submissions will be confirmed by April 2020 with follow-up material to be delivered soon after.

Artists participating in Open Studios may be promoted in several ways, including, but not limited to: the Refract website (refractseattle.org), social media, blog posts, email newsletters, news/media outlets, print or online ads, and more.

If you are unable to participate in the Open Studio portion of Refract, there will be other opportunities for you to be a part of this event. Stay tuned for additional details.
