Specially Made

Here in Seattle, a host of restaurants, bars, and dessert spots offer dedicated menus free of gluten, animal products, or dairy to exceed even the most discerning foodie’s expectations. Special diet or not, these eateries are tasty enough for everyone.

GLUTEN FREE

With dishes like gluten-free medjool dates wrapped in bacon, Tango (*1100 Pike St; tangorestaurant.com) proves that diet considerations aren’t limiting. Bol Pho Bistro (918 NE 64th St; bolseattle.com) also packs a flavorful, wheat-free punch with its steaming noodle bowls. If you’re craving a burger, Blue Moon Burgers (703 N 34th St; bluemoonburgers.com) and Uneeda Burger (4302 Fremont Ave N; uneedaburger.com) pair quality ingredients with some of the best gluten-free buns around. Razzi’s Pizzeria (8523 Greenwood Ave N; razzispizza.com) is also popular with the gluten-free set, with pizzas and subs. And for some stellar comfort food, Biscuit Bitch (1909 First Ave; biscuitbitch.com) makes a mean gluten-free biscuit and gravy.

Local culinary giant Tom Douglas joined in with a gluten-free pasta at his Italian restaurant Cuoco (*310 Terry Ave N; cuoco-seattle.com), and James Beard Award–winning chef Maria Hines offers gluten-free and vegan menus at her Southern Italian outfit Agrodolce (709 N 35th St; agrodolcerestaurant.net) and Eastern Mediterranean eatery Golden Beetle (1744 NW Market St; golden-beetle.com).

When it comes to desserts and drinks, gluten-free spots like NuFlours (518 15th Ave E; nuflours.com) and Flying Apron (3510 Fremont Ave N; flyingapron.com) offer sweet treats, while Capitol Cider (*818 E Pike St; capitolcider.com) has two dozen ciders on tap—plus a gluten-free menu—and Ghostfish Brewing Company (2942 First Ave S; ghostfishbrewing.com) proudly brews wheat-free ales.

VEGAN & VEGETARIAN

For nonmeat eaters, a can’t-miss is Cafe Flora (2901 E Madison St; cafeflora.com), which has an exclusively vegan and vegetarian menu. Chaco Canyon (3770 SW Alaska St; chacocanyoncafe.com), Plum Bistro (1429 12th Ave; plumbistro.com), and Wayward Vegan Cafe (801 NE 65th St; waywardvegancafe.com) also offer full vegan menus. On the sweet front, Cinnamon Works (1536 Pike Pl) is known for its vegan sticky buns, while Bluebird (7400 Greenwood Ave N; bluebirdicecream.com) offers nondairy scoops to ice cream lovers.
