Calling All Art Collectors

Local art abounds in our Northwest cultural hub. 

With an eclectic art scene, permanent galleries, annual fairs, and dozens of events that showcase the region’s artistic talents, Seattle offers plenty of ways to take home a piece of the Emerald City.

Art collectors (and window shoppers, too) enjoy year-round walkabouts hosted by galleries in Pioneer Square and downtown during First Thursday (pioneersquare.org)  from 6pm–8pm every month. On the second Saturday of the month, Georgetown Art Attack (georgetownartattack.com) showcases shops and studios like Rainier Glass Studio, El Sirenito, and The Alice Gallery. The event even offers a free shuttle between hot spots like Equinox Studios, studio e, and the School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts.

Seattle Art Fair (*800 Occidental Ave S; seattleartfair.com) stages an annual takeover of Lumen Field Event Center. Originally founded by the late Paul Allen to spotlight the Pacific Northwest arts community, the fair brings together local, national, and international galleries; area museums and institutions; and an array of innovative public programming.

Urban Craft Uprising (*urbancraftuprising.com) allows visitors to shop from burgeoning crafters and artists based in Seattle and beyond, with events including an Urban Craft Market at Magnolia Summerfest, First Thursday art walks all summer long in Occidental Park, an Urban Craft Fall Market in South Lake Union, and a thriving holiday market at Seattle Center. Newer to Seattle, Renegade Craft Fair (renegadecraft.com) is part of one of the farthest-reaching showcases in the world celebrating contemporary craft and design culture.

Year-round, Paper Hammer (1400 Second Ave; paper-hammer.com) draws visitors to its flagship shop downtown with a collection of hand-bound albums, letterpress-printed goods, and journals made in Tieton, Washington. But the ultimate spot for handmade crafts is Pike Place Market (*First Ave and Pike St; pikeplacemarket.org), which sells goods from more than 225 regional craftspeople. Pick up one-of-a-kind pottery, glass art, jewelry, and more.
