That's why Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau has partnered with Meeting Strategies Worldwide, an award-winning, environmental firm specializing in the meetings industry. Take a look below and discover more about how easy it is to go green in Seattle. We're not known as the Emerald City for nothing!

Seattle’s stunning natural setting & progressive, green-thinking culture have established it as one of North America’s greenest cities.

Seatteites were early supporters of curbside recycling, green building certification, alternative fuels for public transportation and many other environmental sustainability initiatives. Some 800 cities have followed Seattle in pledging to reduce harmful carbon dioxide emissions via the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.

This city is a mecca for green meetings and haven for pleasure travelers who care about the environment. Our tourism slogan, metronatural, beckons one and all to enjoy the best of both worlds – a vibrant urban core surrounded by natural beauty and outdoor recreation.

The Emerald City welcomes you!

The Washington State Convention & Trade Center demonstrates an industry-leading commitment to recycle, reduce and reuse.

The Washington State Recycling Association presented the center with the 2008 Recycler of the Year Award – Public Agency. The center also received the 2007 Community Service Award by the Washington Society of Association Executives for its ongoing efforts to use and promote Washington’s agricultural products.

In August 2008, the center inaugurated the nation’s first completely compostable water bottles available for its clients and features many other compostable products. Each year, the center recycles 174 tons of cardboard, 186 tons of mixed paper, plastic and glass, 2,460 pounds of aluminum cans and 12 tons of scrap metal and is currently working to achieve LEED – Existing Building Certification.
